  Airlines, travel agencies & buses

Airlines________________________________________________________________

  • Continental Airlines, Most efficient route from northwest USA i.e. Seattle -> Houston -> Bogota with only an hour or so in Houston.  Rate at Coninental.com was $10 cheaper than Orbitz and $400 less than Delta.

  • Delta Airlines, Costly drinks and $2 headphones unless going international, then all is free.  I fly Delta most of the time, mostly for air miles.  Delta uses Miami as the departure point to Colombia

  • American Airlines, more $, bigger seats.

  • United Airlines, even more $$ but smaller seats.  Check to see if still in business before booking ticket.

  • Avianca, (Avi-nunca to some) Colombian airline; first in the Americas.  Great for paying twice the price & waiting twice as long with surprise, overnight trips to Caracas.  Brazil owns it now instead of the Colombian coffee growers association so it'll get better.  El Tiempo newspaper and duty-free catalog available after takeoff with immediate delivery because the items are stored in the back of the plane. $150 to change ticket...I know personally.  Great food!

  • Lan Chile, opposite of AVIANCA. Four-stars.

  • Satena, state-run airline for flying within interior of Colombia.  Pilots are Colombian Air Force.  Flight attendants are Colombian hotties.  Great service and fares, professional, well-trained flight crews & they like Gringos too.  See?  -->

Travel agencies___________________________________________________________________

  • Orbitz. They've actually made a lot of progress finding lower fares than the other fare reproducers like Expedia and Priceline.  They actually found cheaper tickets for me more times than the airline consolidators and with no annoying traveling gnome.  Priceline sucks.  If you want to chance your credit card for some obscure ticket with an 18-hour layover in Fargo, go ahead. Cheapflights.com will aggregate your travel request to many travel sites.

  • Despegar, travel site for those leaving from Colombia.

  • CheapTickets, airline consolidator.

  • AirSaver, airline consolidator.

  • Air Brokers International, sells RTW (Round The World) tickets which is a series of one-way tickets for globetrotters.

  • Travel Discounters, Great deals to Bogotá here, airline consolidator.

  • Airline consolidator.com, another good consolidator.

  • Flights.com formerly TISS, airline consolidator.

  • Air Travel Center, Another airline consolidator favorite of mine.

  • Airline consolidator, check here too.

Colombian bus service______________________________________________________

  • Brasilia  If you've ever ridden one of the smaller buses, you'd really appreciate this Colombian version of Greyhound.
