Shipping to Colombia is not cheap. The Colombian postal system is in shambles and while some insist they've had no problems sending packages there, more often than not are testimonials of long delivery times, disappearing packages and missing items. The US Postal system can deliver to Colombia and is the cheapest route but when it finally arrives in Colombia, it is handed off to the mercy of the Colombian postal system to complete the delivery unless you send it via the USPS's Global Priority in which case it is delivered to FedEx who is then responsible to complete the delivery. UPS will reliably deliver a package to Colombia which is then handed off to the Colombian mail system as well. FedEx is reliable but expensive. Sending a two-pound package to Bogota can cost upwards of $100, much more if you're sending a package to a small town in the countryside. Obviously, FedEx is the best choice for an envelope with time-sensitive documents which is often the case for Gringos who need the photocopies of their passports/driver licenses or tax records/birth certificates they forgot at home (another reason to make sure you have everything you need before getting married in Colombia!). Another option: make friends with the message board folks who travel a lot to Colombia and send them things to take to Colombia for you. When it's your turn to go, take their things with you. It has saved me a bundle.
